Go-Around / Rejected Landing
Reject a landing and re-establish a climb: full power, then retract flaps in stages while transitioning from a descent to a positive Vx/Vy climb, and announce the go-around.
Go-Around
- Apply full power and pitch to arrest the descent“Going around”
- Flaps to 25° to reduce dragDump the biggest drag increment first, but not all at once — retracting full flaps in one motion can cause a sink.
- Flaps to 10° as the airplane accelerates
- Establish Vx (66 kt) for obstacles
- Flaps to 0° once clear and at a safe airspeed
Climb-out
- Climb at Vy (76 kt)
- Announce the go-around and your intentions; sidestep to see the runway“XX traffic, going around”
ACS tolerances
- Prompt decision and full power without delay
- Climb speed Vy +10/−5 kt
Common errors
- Retracting all flaps at once and sinking
- Deciding to go around too late
- Failing to control pitch and airspeed during the transition
