Go-Around / Rejected Landing

Reject a landing and re-establish a climb: full power, then retract flaps in stages while transitioning from a descent to a positive Vx/Vy climb, and announce the go-around.

Go-Around

  1. Apply full power and pitch to arrest the descentGoing around
  2. Flaps to 25° to reduce drag
Dump the biggest drag increment first, but not all at once — retracting full flaps in one motion can cause a sink.
  3. Flaps to 10° as the airplane accelerates
  4. Establish Vx (66 kt) for obstacles
  5. Flaps to 0° once clear and at a safe airspeed

Climb-out

  1. Climb at Vy (76 kt)
  2. Announce the go-around and your intentions; sidestep to see the runwayXX traffic, going around

ACS tolerances

  • Prompt decision and full power without delay
  • Climb speed Vy +10/−5 kt

Common errors

  • Retracting all flaps at once and sinking
  • Deciding to go around too late
  • Failing to control pitch and airspeed during the transition
